Refvera

Privacy

This policy is short because we collect little.

The text you paste

Reference lists you check are processed only in memory while the lookups run, and are never stored – not in databases, not in logs. The references are sent as searches to the open registries (CrossRef, OpenAlex, Open Library, Libris, Deutsche Nationalbibliothek, the National Library of Norway, the Norwegian Parliament), just as a library search would. Web addresses in the references are checked by visiting the address.

No tracking

Free use requires no login, and Refvera uses no analytics, no ad tracking and no tracking cookies. The service runs on Cloudflare, which keeps ordinary operational logs (IP address and time) for security and troubleshooting. We have a simple rate limit per IP address to prevent abuse; it stores no history.

The free quota

To count the 3 free lists per month we store a derived value of the IP address (a one-way hash that cannot be traced back to the address) together with a monthly counter. Counters for previous months are deleted continuously. If you are logged in with an active licence, nothing is counted.

Account and login

If you choose to log in, we store your e-mail address and the time of your last login. Login codes and sessions are stored only as one-way hashes, and the session lives in one necessary cookie (refvera_sesjon) that is not used for tracking. The account is deleted on request.

Purchases

Card payments are handled entirely by Stripe – Refvera never sees card details. On purchase we store what the licence needs: e-mail address, licence level, amount and expiry date. This is stored in the EU (Cloudflare D1, Western Europe) and used only to administer the licence. Stripe's processing is described in Stripe's privacy policy.

Your rights

To access or delete your licence details, e-mail post@refvera.com. The data controller is Lien Educate (Norwegian org. no. 993 268 844) c/o Terje Lien.
